Family News and Fights Feb / March/ April - Mike is ill with chest pains, back pains, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, other than that, he is doing well. Mike is visited by Ole' Daddy 3 times, becomes very concerned about health. Diplomatic relations with brother Stacy restored. Mike overwhelmed by sheer number of family and friends who come by, call, and offer prayers and help. Mike is very grateful to all. April 11 05 -Former brother in law Blair has stroke and heart surgery due to complications from dental infection. We are overjoyed to report that our prayers were answered and he made it. His 3 kids, and ex wife all gather by his side. April 13 - 05 - News report that Mike's brother Joe is wanted for a murder in Edmonton. Turns out it was another person with same name, brother Joe comes out of hiding. Uncle Perv calls Pearl (sister) inquiring about murder charge, she informs him, wrong person. Pearl asks Perv why she is treated as a pariah by him for past six months, he snaps, tells her she told everybody he was a rapist. She vehemently denies charges, informs him she said he was a slob and a skirt chaser, rape didn't enter into it. Pearl demands to hear where information comes from, Perv refuses, citing confidentiality. Pearl reports that she hangs up phone before he does. No reports of future peace talks at this writing. April 14 - 05 Mike receives call from quite agitated Pearl asking him if there isn't something we can do to stop all of the calls she is getting regarding Joe's arrest for murder. Mike laughs and tries to sympathize, but his words don't seem to help situation. April 15 - 05 Nephew Gus reports that his dad, Blair, is ripping out his breathing tubes so he had to be sedated again. Poor guy has had quite an ordeal, we are still keeping him in our thoughts and prayers. All of this due to a dental infection, but he never even had a toothache. Rumour has it, all of his children book dental appointments. April 16 - 05 - Pretty peaceful weekend, other than Daddy is in trouble with his wife again, which really isn't uncharted territory for him. Something pertaining to several thousand expletives during the installation of a rug. Blair is doing better today, he's talking, and breathing on his own. I am going in for another blood test, and hopefully I will finally find out what is wrong this week. Update: Blair is still on breathing assistance, but he is aware of what is going on and sent his son Gus, on several errands today, newspaper, etc. I may have to slap my contact upside the head for erroneous reporting. April 18/05 - Janelle is having a bad start to her week, she didn't get her homework done and some sanctions were placed against her. Me and Joel are laying low. Joel is making vast improvements in his ability to play baseball, he is catching pretty good, and batting even better. Last year he played on a team with kids just starting. He had his glove in the air and a ball kinda fell into it. Both teams cheered him as that was the first catch anyone had made in the 3 games they played. April 20/05 Blair has had a setback of sorts, they have discovered a new infection in his stomach but he is starting to initiate breath on his own, which is a good sign. His sister is coming to see him and he will like that. Pearl is now going to be selling Mangosteen juice and I am going to take it, it can't do any harm, and it will keep Pearl from ragging on me. April 21/05 A sad start to the day, as the children came screaming up the stairs, saying Newman was dead, unfortunately they were right. The little guy just seemed to go to sleep, but we weren't expecting it, so we have two very sad kids. No news yet today on Blair, so that in itself, is good news. I went to the doctor myself yesterday, the lump on my kidney is just an old beercap, nothing to be concerned with. I start cardiac rehab tomorrow, see the dietician early next week regarding "backing off from the trough." With any luck, I will be okay, soon. April 22/05 I went into rehab today, not that kind of rehab, Lisa. It was cardiac and I was surprised that it was so interesting. Dana the nurse was knowledgeable and quick witted, although I was a little troubled that she said I should monitor my own drug intake. I never did before. I thought that's what we had pharmacists and medical people for. I made a vow to improve. April 26/05 Blair is now sitting up and although he is still on breathing assistance, he is let off for a little while everyday. He is also able to lift his left leg, so that is a vast improvement. I started taking Pearl's Wonder Juice last night, I still don't feel ready to climb every tree in the yard yet, but we'll see. April 28/ 05 Did my rehab yesterday, my blood pressure was quite high, she wasn't sure if I could exercise. I had forgotten to take my meds the night before, I guess they really do work. May 1/05 - News out of Edmonton is that Blair is doing better all the time. They are letting him get out of bed, I believe. May 7/05 - Blair is making vast improvements, he was off the respirator for 28 hours and managed to get out of bed and into a wheelchair by himself. May 12/05 - Blair is doing better, he made it by himself with a walker to the door and back. That's great news! He still has along way to go, but they are going to move his feeding tube from his throat to his stomach.He said he is dying for a coke, he hasn't even mentioned a beer. There is nothing sacred anymore. As for me, my pulse is still going strong, 105 this morning after walking from my bed into my room where I check my sugar and blood pressure.I have just about mastered the blood sugar problem, although it is still high in the morning. I have been trying to avoid taking one more drug, but I guess I am going to have to break down and take it. Apparently it has a lot of side effects.
